The 2024 Lance Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon is leafy and perfumed on the nose. The fruit comes from the Lance vineyard in St. Andrews, planted to clone SA125. It is one of the oldest surviving vineyards in the Yarra, planted in 1976. There is a distinct petrichor note in here, one we don't see too often in Australian Cabernet, and it plays so neatly into the hands of the floral top notes and red/purple fruit spectrum. This is an incredibly elegant Cabernet. It's on the greener side of ripe, but I really appreciate the behavior of the tannins—in that they are not sappy or tacky, rather they are ductile and pliable within the fruit. This is a lovely wine, with lingering length and attractive sapidity. I find leafy/green-spectrum Cabernet like this often makes for graceful and fresh older wines. 12% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
